The almost mythical woodcock is a bird relished by all sportsmen. They migrate from Northern Europe and Russia, arriving in Ireland generally in mid-november. Undoubtedly the moon has some effect on their migration as the first “falls” of woodcock generally coincide with the new moon in November. It’s erratic jinxing and jiving around the trees is spell binding and even the most experienced of game shots will often miss the target of a woodcock emerging from a pheasant drive.
Due to our habitat management programme’s the woodcock appear to be staying with us in ever increasing numbers.
To obtain a left and right on woodcock is something that only a very few skilled or lucky guns will ever achieve!!
The snipe is an unmistakable bird, both in flight and in the sound it makes when flushed. This slender, bird is easily identified by its long bill, pointed wings and characteristic cry. When it is flushed it springs quickly, is fast, erratic and it’s zigzag flight makes it a testing shot.
We offer a strictly limited number of days giving a few teams of guns the opportunity to test themselves against these two mythical birds whilst still preserving stocks for future generations.
Normal Shoot Terms & Conditions apply.
The day starts at 9.00am and finishes at approximately 4.00pm.
The important thing to remember is that these birds are WILD and therefore there can be no absolute guarantee on the number of birds that will be seen. Success depends on a combination of favourable weather across Europe and Russia, migration and competence of the gun. Glennoo Game Sports makes no guarantee on the size of the bag on these days but we do our best to ensure you and your team have the most enjoyable day possible. Please note a woodcock & snipe ban due to freezing conditions is beyond our control and up to you to insure against.
You will find the Glennoo team friendly, professional and welcoming. Glennoo Game Sports is a traditional shoot and guests are asked to dress accordingly.
